Orbis Partners have advised the shareholders of Bramble Foods, a successful manufacturer and distributor of fine foods, supplying into a national customer base of farm shops, garden centres, independent retailers and holiday parks across the gift, tourism and leisure markets, on attracting investment from leading mid-market private equity firm LDC to accelerate its growth strategy.

Orbis have been working with the shareholders on their succession plans for a number of years, which culminated in LDC investing for a significant minority stake. The Orbis team was led by Partner Gary Ecob and Director Steve Nock with support from Adam Grenfell.

Bramble manufactures and supplies over 2,000 high-quality products ranging from preserves, pickles, chutneys and sauces to cakes, biscuits, confectionery, hampers and seasonal goods. Bramble acts as a specialist ‘one stop shop’ for its customer’s entire product requirements with products sourced from established external suppliers and an in-house manufacturing division which produces a range of award-winning preserves, chutneys, sauces and cakes.

LDC is backing the business’ existing management team led by founder and CEO Tony Foster, alongside industry stalwarts, Chris Neville (Finance Director) and Ken Osborne (Sales Director). As part of the deal, Nigel Foster will be retiring to pursue other interests. Under their leadership, the business has experienced strong year on year growth since its inception in 2008, both organically and via targeted acquisitions of complementary businesses.

LDC’s backing will enable the management team to consolidate its market-leading position by supporting further organic growth and investment in Bramble’s in-house manufacturing capabilities, along with the targeting of complementary business acquisitions across the supply chain.

At the heart of Bramble is an unrivalled range of high-quality foods. Year on year we have increased our food production capabilities and invested in our personalisation service offering unique bespoke products to our customers. Our partnership with LDC will allow us to continue this strategy into the future.

Tony Foster, Director

We have admired the Bramble business for many years, so I am delighted to have concluded this deal for the shareholders, allowing Tony, Chris, Ken and the team to drive the business forward together as the leader in its sector.
