Lawrence Recycling Completes First Acquisition
Orbis investment Lawrence Recycling and Waste Management Ltd has completed the trade acquisition of commercial waste collector Clearaway, with Orbis acting as lead advisors.
Clearaway is a profitable regional waste collections business with a strong local presence within Worcestershire and South Birmingham. The existing vehicles operated by Clearaway will be replaced by a brand new fleet in Lawrence livery.
The acquisition secures around 25,000 tonnes of waste per annum to be processed at the Forge Recycling Centre, taking the waste collected by the group to over 75,000 tonnes.
Clearaway provides us with the opportunity to develop our trade waste collection services and provide customers with a higher level of service and compliance, while managing pre-treatment legislation and corporate social responsibility concerns.
David Lawrence, Managing Director
Lawrence Recycling has seen busy times since raising £10 million of funding in January 2009, completing the renovation of the 209,000 sq ft Forge site and installing over £1m of plant and machinery.
The Forge recycling facility is now fully operational and has secured waste streams from a number of third-party collection businesses, moving the business rapidly towards its target of processing 250,000 tonnes of waste per annum. An open day to officially unveil the state of the art facility is planned for late September.
As part of the ongoing growth plans, Andrew Gibson has joined the already experienced management team as Chairman. Andrew is extremely experienced in the waste sector having worked within Biffa for 9 years, culminating in his role as General Manager responsible for 17 locations from the Midlands to the South Coast. Andrew was subsequently Managing Director of Severn Trent Laboratories and Scientifics Ltd, a testing, analysis and consultancy business where he completed an MBI and subsequent sale to Inspicio PLC.
Orbis are continuing to work with the management team to find further acquisitions.
