Orbis Advises on the MBO of IDE Systems
Cannock-based IDE systems supply temporary power equipment for events, construction work and facilities management companies. The business was founded by Ian and Sue Thomas in 1994, after 25 years of success, the owners were looking to sell the business but wanted to ensure the business would be left in good hands.
Through a management buyout, the business was bought by Wayne Woodhead, Kevin Warne and Matt Collins. Wayne is now Group Managing Director, with Kevin as Group Sales Director and Matt as Operations Director. The management team have ambitious plans for the future, building on the foundations laid by the founders of the business.
Orbis Partners was engaged by Santander to perform financial due diligence on IDE Systems to enable Santander to provide funding to the transaction. The team was led by Partner Malcolm Cook and supported by Ollie Devine.
Having owned and led IDE since it was established in 1994, we were keen to make sure it continues to grow into the future, yet be able to exit. Having appointed the management team last year, we are very pleased to have completed the handover and wish them all the success for the future.

Orbis produced a value-added report which focused in on the key risk areas and was spot on in terms of its balance between detail and relevance. This commercial approach was hugely important in helping to provide comfort around the quality of IDE.
Simon Clewlow, Director of Growth Capital
IDE is a quality business with experienced, capable management in an interesting sector. We were very pleased to support Santander on the project and we wish the new management much success in the future.
